Entrepreneur Opportunity Often Pursued for the Wrong Reasons
Market Wire, November, 2009
Contrary to popular belief, a recent study
revealed that the majority of people who start their own business do so
because they don’t want to work for someone else. Shane Krider, founder of
entrepreneurial skills training company Polaris Media Group, says it takes
a lot more than not wanting a boss to achieve success with an entrepreneur opportunity .
The study, entitled ” The Illusions of
Entrepreneurship: The Costly Myths That Entrepreneurs, Investors, and
Policy Makers Live By ,” published by Scott A. Shane, a professor at
Case Western Reserve University, also revealed that those who start
businesses primarily because they don’t want to work for someone else
rarely rise above a virtually stagnant sole proprietorship.
“The results of this study don’t surprise me,” said Krider. “To accomplish
something, you need to have a strong desire to achieve a goal. You have to
want to create something, not simply avoid something — like a boss.”
Krider also said this might well explain why 75% of new businesses fail
within their first three years.
“It takes enthusiasm to make a go of it. It’s hard to get enthusiastic
about nothing other than not having to deal with a boss every day.”
According to Krider, and others who train and coach people to success in
entrepreneurial opportunity, focus, passion and desire are key to
overcoming cheap airfare the obstacles one can face as an entrepreneur.
“If someone really wants to achieve success, someone like me can help them.
But if they’re just trying to avoid putting up with a boss, they won’t make
it. They need a purpose. Fortunately, our coaching helps them with that,
too.”
